How To Become A Nurse

First, decide what type of nurse you would like to become. For example, do you want to be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), a Registered Nurse (RN), a Nurse Practitioner (NP), or a nurse who specializes such as a Legal Nurse Consultant or a Forensic Nurse? There are other types of nurses as well which we will cover in another article later.

Second, after you have decided what type of nursing career you are interested in, you need to find out what educational requirements are needed to enter that specific career field. At a minimum you will need at least two years of college to complete an associate degree in nursing. There are also nursing diploma programs which may take 3 years to finish. Or you may want or need to earn a bachelors degree in nursing, which takes about 4 years to complete. Then depending on how far up the career latter you want to climb or if you want to go into management, you may also want to complete a Masters in Nursing Degree or even a Doctorate Degree. But for many, completing an advanced degree in nursing comes later in their career.

Third, you will need to contact all the nursing schools you are interested in or that are near you. Once you have made contact, then find out which nursing programs they offer and if any of the programs will help you reach your goals of becoming a nurse in the career areas you are interested in.

Last, complete your nursing school application; get your financial aid, student loans, or other financing requirements in order. Once you hear back from all the schools of interest to learn if you have been accepted you can make a decision on where you would like to go. Then study hard to reach you goals. Good Luck!
